This group will focus on fusing literacy with physical movement. Children will explore a genre study with narratives, fables, and folktales while learning yoga poses incorporating tactile/kinesthetic, visual, social, and auditory learning together. Children will be using the stories and characters as a basis to learn yoga poses while we develop and enhance our literacy skills with comprehension, inferring, retelling, and summarizing key details. Yoga will be used to reinforce concepts within characterization and plot development. We will explore and understand how each characters dialogue, description, actions and thoughts propel the plot. As a whole group we will read aloud and focus on small moments within the story to absorb a character and “portray” our pose. Children will then get to select their own favorite character or story moment to write, discuss, draw, craft, and share out about with the group. Bring on the books, bring on the poses, bring on the fun! Bring a blanket, towel, or mat for this group!
